Jewelry care

Taking good care of your jewelry is very important — proper maintenance helps prevent damage and keeps your pieces beautiful over time.

Each Jewenils creation is entirely handmade with carefully selected materials. These jewels are designed to last and accompany you every day, but like all artisanal pieces, they need a little extra attention.

How to care for macramé pieces

🧵 The cords

Jewenils macramé jewelry is made with wax-coated polyester cords, which are strong and durable.

Colors do not fade easily, and the cords hold their shape over time. They are quite resistant to water, but to keep your jewelry beautiful, I recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to humidity, sweat, or salt water.

Note: During the knotting process, a bit of wax may accumulate between the cords. If you notice small white residues, don’t worry — it’s simply wax, and it will naturally disappear with time and wear.

🌿 Natural stones

Each gemstone is unique and has its own characteristics. Some stones, like malachite or selenite, do not like water and may get damaged if submerged.

Every stone also has a different hardness level on the Mohs scale, which measures its resistance to scratches and impacts. Stones with lower hardness are more delicate and can chip more easily.

It’s always a good idea to look up information about your stone to learn more about its hardness and water resistance.

In general, avoid contact with perfumes, creams, or cleaning products. If needed, clean the stone gently with a soft, dry cloth.

Metal details

Some Jewenils creations are embellished with small stainless steel beads:

The silver-colored (steel tone) versions are very durable — they do not tarnish or lose color over time.

The gold-colored versions are plated, and their finish may fade with exposure to water, sweat, or chemicals. To keep them shiny, it’s best not to wear them while showering, swimming, or exercising.

For Wire Jewelry

Copper or Aluminum?

Most wire-wrapped Jewenils creations are made of copper or aluminum, each with its own characteristics:

Aluminum hardly ever oxidizes and is nickel-free, making it ideal for sensitive skin. However, it is a soft metal, so handle it gently and avoid strong impacts.

Copper is sturdier and more impact-resistant. The one I use has a protective platingthat helps it maintain its color and shine longer than unplated copper. To keep it bright and beautiful, follow a few simple care tips.

Quick Care Summary

Handle your jewelry with care — each piece is handmade and unique.

Avoid impacts or wearing it while sleeping to prevent accidental damage.

Keep jewelry away from water (some stones don’t tolerate it).

Avoid exposure to sweat, seawater, and chemicals like perfume, deodorant, or chlorine.

When not in use, store your jewelry in separate pouches or boxes to prevent scratches.
